Mary River Turtle

On a recent trip to Tairo and District Landcare, we enjoyed an evening passing over a cheque from Wildlife Queensland to support the protection of nest sites of the endangered Mary River Turtle. This turtle is only found in the Mary River and is threatened by native and feral animal predation of the eggs in the nest. Foxes and dogs are a major threat though the natural diet of the goanna includes turtle eggs. Some photos from the evening's celebrations and the next day down on the Mary at a nest site.
